Manual models offer a hydraulic lift that is operated with a handle to raise and a release valve to lower. Some models fold to facilitate easy storage. Electric models use motors to facilitate patient movement and are button operated. Some electric models also have monitoring equipment to facilitate lift maintenance and monitor proper usage.
Bariatric models, for larger patients, are also available. Slings and other gear necessary to use a Hoyer Lift are sometimes sold separately.
